In Technocarb's case, the demand for EPA certified systems hasn't come close to justifying the cost of maintaining the certificates. It doesn't mean the their formerly EPA-certified systems no longer meet EPA regulations. Rather, it means that the sales don't justify the fees. Although the previously certified systems are still available, it is generally much more economical to use the universal ESIP parts package. Because the ESIP parts package will not result in an EPA certified system when fully assembled, it is only recommended for off-road applications. However, the ESIP retains all emission controls so that they remain intact and fully functional. When properly calibrated, the fuel trims remain the same as they would be on gasoline operation so no OBDII Check Engine Light (CEL) codes are generated. Tailpipe emissions are at least as clean as they would on gasoline as well. The ESIP parts package also complies NPFA 52 safety regulations.
